90% of Your Email Ad's Success is Directly Tied to Your Subject Heading! The very first thing your potential customer sees is your Email Subject Heading or "Headline". We can not stress enough just how important this first impression is to your success. Most people only read the subject line of their email to make a decision whether to read the email or to delete it. Use your imagination and make your Subject Heading interesting and unique and very attention getting. You MUST make the email recipient curious enough to click and read your email ad, or it will be deleted and never read! Remember, use your imagination and creativity! Which of the two following email subject headlines would you be more curious about and therefore more likely to click on and open to read, "We Sell Vitamins" or "Double Your Energy & Performance Levels!!!" ? - Shorter is Better! Keep it straightforward and to-the-point! Keep it simple by editing out excessive wording and using bullets. Focus your copy around your offer. Make it interesting, compelling and personal. Make it easy to scan, read and remember. You need to be crystal-clear about what your offer is and in communicating it to your recipient. Do not use all CAPS, as they are the equivalent to screaming to your recipients and is considered poor email etiquette. Try to make the ad copy esthetically pleasing to the eye with only using CAPS to emphesize very important words and try to space things out. Remember the entire point of the ad is to get the prospect to either click a link to your website for more information, or contact you by email, phone or fax to order.
- Include a link to a webpage/site url with further supportive information in your ad copy. Ad copy with a url always get's better results than those with only an email address, telephone and/or fax number to reply to. This is especially true in the case where you may be competing with professional marketers who use professionally designed HTML email advertising to the same list that your ad is going to. Also, email addresses @Hotmail.com, @Yahoo.com, etc. and link urls with only an ip number in place of a domain are generally feared by recipients as not serious, shady, and fly-by-night businesses. The key to success in your ad campaigns is to present your product and service in the most professional and trustworthy manner possible in order to convince them to reply to your advertisment.
-
Deliver Your Most Important Information First! Key benefits and sales points must be communicated in the first screen people read.
- Write Like You Talk! Use contractions and plain, straight-to-the-point wording. Write your ad as if you were telling a friend about something that you are really excited about.
- Eliminate Excess Wording! A strong email ad flows easily from point to point, while at the same time presents only the most important information.
- Make the Contact Information Predominant and Easy to Find! Once again remember the entire point of the ad is to get the prospect to click a link to your website for more information, and/or contact you by email, phone or fax to order. Please note that email ads with no link to a website with further information nearly always get lower response rates. Make the offer clear. Include a call to action -- in other words, tell them what you want them to do and ask them to do it. Make it easy for people to respond.
